Celestun is famous for its many seafood restaurants and offers other activities such as wildlife viewing, canoe trips into the tropical rain forests, boat trips to the feeding grounds of the pink flamingos and other tropical birds, nature hikes through the wildlife refuge, biking, and fishing trips. |

There are numerous sites that can be visited with just day trips. The beautiful colonial city of Merida is only one and a half hour away and one can enjoy a day here full of culture and shopping. From here organized tours are available to the famous Maya Ruins of Uxmal, Chichen Itza, and the Ruta Puuc. |

Just two hours away you can explore the harbour town Campeche. The Historical Center of Campeche was designed in the Renaissance stile of a "chess board" in accordance to the specifications of the Spanish Crown. More than 1600 facades of the Historical Center (downtown) have been restored, including the neighborhoods of San Roman, San Francisco and Guadalupe. Since 1999 the city belongs to the World Cultural Heritage of the Unesco. |
